WHAT YOU GET
You get two fratchets (fidget ratchets): a thumb coin you can roll with just a thumb, and a hand knob that you can grip and operate with multiple fingers. Each fratchet consists of a dial and a base. The coin dial comes with a standard base, and the knob dial a large base. But the coin dial can be used with either side of the large base, for altered ratcheting feedback. And either side of the knob dial works with either side of the standard base.
WHAT THEY ARE FOR
Why, they are for nothing. They are fidgets. But these fratchets do feel and sound like socket wrenches, cog rattle, ratchet strap buckles, or bicycle chains. Some describe the experience of nudging fratchets as similar to dialing a combination lock on a safe. Others imagine zip ties being tightened, or handcuffs being closed around objects.
CUSTOMIZABLE FEEDBACK
Change both tactile and acoustic feedback by holding or cupping a fratchet differently in your palm. Fratchet noises are already much subdued compared to fidget clickers. But you can further mute a fratchet by pressing its base against the palm, or by cupping it with a second hand. You make it louder by holding it against bottles, desktops, doors, cabinets or window panes. Try mounting a fratchet on the soundboard of a guitar.
RATCHET ALONG TO THE MUSIC
You’ve got a portable percussion instrument in your palm. Rap and dance with your fratchets while listening to your favorite music. Let your personal taste and persuasion guide the types of noises you make. Think insect clicks, bird chirps, or beatbox noises. Use fratchets together with their clicker cousins for even better results.

THE DETAILS
We coined “fratchets”, and we hold pending patents on the “fidget walker” concept. These fratchets are 3D-printed. They are for age 14 and up. Do not disassemble these fratchets as they contain small magnets. Swallowed magnets can stick together across intestines causing serious issues.
Anatomy of a Fratchet
Fratchet is a type of fidget walker – you drag a pet marble with a control magnet over a walker surface. The pet marble is trapped inside a base enclosure, while the control magnet is embedded in a dial which can be twirled against the base.
Standard and Large Bases
Both bases provide two walker surfaces each. One surface is fitted with ratchet-like teeth, creating different dialing experiences clockwise vs CCW. The second surface with symmetric teeth offers a detent knob-like dialing experience.
Coin and Knob Dials
The coin dial is optimized for the thumb, and can be fidgeted singlehandedly with either base. The larger knob is optimized for multi-finger fidgeting, with either face of the knob usable as its own dial with its own control magnet.
Diverse Grips
Fidget a fratchet with one hand or both hands. Nudge a coin dial from its side or its top with your thumb. Grab a knob dial with multiple fingers. Mix & match dials with bases. Flip a base for different ratcheting or detent dialing experiences.
Boosting or Muting Clicks
Mute clicks by pushing the bottom of a fratchet base against your palm. Boost clicks by cupping your palm into a sound chamber.
Expanded Sound Chambers
Attach fratchets to sonorous surfaces to turn these into expanded sound chambers. Try wood coasters, elastic container lids, window panes, or bathroom doors. See what new music you can make by attaching a fratchet to your guitar.
